Carriers & Owner-Operators

Join the Landstar network and run your business your way. Don Ellis helps qualified owner-operators lease on with Landstar — one of the highest-paying, most flexible carrier programs in the industry.

Run Under the Landstar Flag

Landstar is different from every other carrier. As a Business Capacity Owner (BCO), you're an independent contractor — not an employee. You choose your loads, set your schedule, and keep more of what you earn. Don Ellis is your dedicated agent through the entire lease-on process and beyond.

Why Landstar Stands Apart

You Own Your Business

As a BCO, you're an independent contractor. You own your truck, choose your loads, and run your operation — Landstar provides the freight and the infrastructure.

Top-Tier Pay

Landstar BCOs consistently earn among the highest per-mile rates in the industry. The load board is full — you're never forced to deadhead for freight.

No Forced Dispatch

You pick the loads you want. No dispatcher telling you where to go. Your truck, your routes, your schedule.

Fuel Discounts

Access to Landstar's nationwide fuel discount program — saving you real money at the pump on every load.

Trailer Rental Program

Need a flatbed, step deck, or conestoga? Landstar's trailer rental program gives you access to equipment without the capital outlay.

Safety & Support

Landstar's safety record is among the best in the industry. You get 24/7 safety support, load assistance, and a dedicated agent in Don Ellis.

Basic Lease-On Requirements

Landstar maintains high standards for the carriers in its network. Here's what you'll need to get started.

Valid CDL-A

A current, valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a clean driving record.

2+ Years Experience

Minimum two years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.

Your Own Equipment

You must own or be purchasing your own tractor. Landstar is an owner-operator program — not a company driver program.

Insurance Requirements

Bobtail/non-trucking liability insurance is required. Landstar provides the primary cargo and liability coverage while under dispatch.

Clean MVR & Background

A clean motor vehicle record and background check are required as part of the application process.

DOT Medical Card

A current, valid DOT medical examiner's certificate is required before leasing on.
